The Untold Story
In 1932, the Australian military went to war. And lost. To birds.
Twenty thousand emus were destroying farmland in Western Australia, so the government sent in soldiers armed with machine guns.
The emus scattered in every direction, splitting into small groups too fast for the guns to hit.
After a week of fighting, over two thousand five hundred rounds had been fired. Only a few hundred emus went down.
One officer said the emus had the invulnerability of Sherman tanks. Australia officially called off the war.
